Kings Win Big on Draft Night

The Sacramento Kings and their fans couldn’t have gotten more excited as Wednesday night’s draft unfolded.

Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and LaMelo Ball went one, two, three.  No surprise there.  They were at the top of most draft boards.  The only question was in what order they would be picked.

Patrick Williams to the Bulls was a bit of a surprise.  Not too many mock drafts had him going that high.  The next five picks were all guys expected to go in the top 10: Isaac Okoro, Onyeka Okongwu, Killian Hayes, Obi Toppin and Deni Avdija.  At 10, Phoenix made a surprise pick of Jalen Smith.

Among the players remaining on the board, one name stood out.  He was expected to go in the 6-10 range.  When San Antonio took wing Devin Vassell at No. 11, the Kings knew they had their man!

Tyrese Haliburton was about to become the first pick by the Kings’ new front office, and they couldn’t be happier.

Haliburton was pretty happy too that he was going to Sacramento.  He says the Kings are a great fit and was his preferred destination.

Haliburton fills a couple of needs for the Kings.  He can back up De’Aaron Fox at the point, or he can play next to Fox as the two guard. The 20-year-old likens himself to a young basketball historian and he even showed that he knows a few things about Kings history.

Haliburton showed that he is not shy or bashful and that he is not one to shun the spotlight.  He made the biggest fashion statement of all the draftees on draft night.  The Kings certainly can’t wait ’til he shines on the hardwood.

Haliburton also showed that he’s not afraid to have some fun..

Another interesting note about Haliburton courtesy of Kelsea O’Brien of Haliburton is technically the youngest player ever drafted since his February 29th leap-year birthday makes him just five years old.  No matter, he’s old enough to play in the NBA and the Kings are really happy that he’s playing in Sacramento.
