Celtics Sign Aron Baynes to One-Year Deal

The Boston Celtics expect to sign free-agent center Aron Baynes to a one-year, $4.3 million deal, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Last season the Australian averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15 minutes per game off the bench with the Detroit Pistons. His size and height at 6-foot-10 can help any team in need of an inside presence. Boston knew that they were thin up front, losing Kelly Olynyk (four-year deal with Miami) and Amir Johnson (one-year deal with Philadelphia) in free agency. Adding a bruiser type of player like the 30-year-old, who was also one of the veteran locker room leaders in Detroit, makes them tougher than before.

In addition to Baynes and Al Horford, expect Boston’s frontcourt to be filled out with Ante Zizic, Daniel Theis, and Guerschon Yabusele, all international players who can give them quality minutes.
