Bucks Push Win Streak to 18, Complete Yet Another Perfect Week

on

Prior to the beginning of this week, the Bucks were already approaching rarely seen territory in the history of the franchise. With another clean stretch, they would find themselves just a couple of wins from the longest winning streak in team history. So, how did they fare during a four-game week? Let’s have a look!

12/9: vs. Orlando

Result: 110-101 W

Well, this one was a little close for comfort. Even without center Nikola Vucevic, arguably his team’s best player, the Magic still gave the Bucks all they could handle. While they did not have anybody who lit up the scoreboard, Evan Fournier’s 26 points — and Terrence Ross’ 23 — kept Milwaukee on its toes. The Greek Freak, however, turned in one of his best performances of the season. His 32p/15r/8a to go along with 20 points from Middleton was enough to get the Bucks a hard-fought 21st win.

12/11: vs. New Orleans

Result: 127-112 W

Following the 2019 NBA Draft, NBA fans rejoiced when thinking about watching Zion battle the greats. His potential matchups with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and others excited the basketball universe. One of the most exciting battles was meant to be Zion vs. Giannis.

However, come Wednesday night, it was not to be. Now, we knew about Zion’s inability to hit the hardwood so far this season. The surprise was Giannis’ late scratch, as he was sidelined for the night with right quad tendon soreness. No Giannis, no problem, though, as Eric Bledsoe came through big with a team-high 29 points. Ersan Ilyasova added 18 in his first start and the Bucks brought home a 15-point victory, surviving a 31-point outburst from former Buck J.J. Redick.

12/13: @ Memphis

Result: 127-114 W

Another game, another star rookie out against Milwaukee. This time, it was Memphis’ Ja Morant who sat out the affair. On the other hand, Milwaukee lost its own starting point guard later on, as Eric Bledsoe suffered a shin injury that would take him out for the rest of the game, his status to be determined later. Even without the firepower of Morant, the Grizzlies kept this game close well into the fourth.

The Greek Freak returned to action in a big way, with 17 fourth quarter points, including this hammer over Bruno Caboclo. The play resulted in a technical foul, but seemed to light a fire under the Bucks, who finished the game on a 28-15 run to close out win No. 23.

12/14: vs. Cleveland

Result: 125-108 W

Would you believe it, the Bucks played another road/home back-to-back this week, their fourth on the season. Regardless, the Bucks got some unfortunate injury news on Saturday, as it was revealed the aforementioned Bledsoe injury would cost him approximately the next two weeks. Donte DiVincenzo stepped into the starting lineup as the Cavs came to town, the two teams’ third matchup this season.

While Matthew Dellavedova has made his return to Milwaukee since the trade, this was John Henson’s first action against his former team. For the Bucks, Middleton was extremely efficient yet again. Robin Lopez put in his best game of the year off the bench, and Giannis put up 29 despite only recording four rebounds and four assists.

The Week Ahead

The Bucks return to a quartet of games this week, starting with the Luka-less Dallas Mavericks on Monday night before a massive TNT match-up with LeBron, AD and the Lakers on Wednesday. Then, another road/home back-to-back sees them travel to MSG to take on the Knicks before returning home to take on the Pacers (likely with Brogdon this time). Then, it’s on to Christmas!
