Chicago and Detroit Swap Role Players

The Chicago Bulls have agreed to trade Jameer Nelson to Detroit in exchange for Willie Reed, who the Pistons recently acquired from the Clippers along with Blake Griffin.  Chicago and Detroit will also swap 2022 second round picks as part of this deal.

Shams Charania was the first to report this. For those keeping track at home, that’s Shams 1, Woj 0. Woj has been mostly reporting, so far today, that he’s hearing teams are backing out of the trade market. Both guys have said that no major players are expected to be traded today, and that role player swaps such as this are all we’ll see.

Nelson helps sure up the Pistons’ point guard rotation, with Reggie Jackson often injured and inconsistent. Reed may remain with Chicago, and perhaps they trade a different big man to acquire a second rounder. Or they may choose to waive Willie and keep a roster spot flexible for 10-day contracts for the remainder of the season.

As always, keep up with the trade deadline deals at @TLSportsMedia throughout the day.
