2016 NBA Off-Season Preview

The 2016 NBA off-season has arrived!  Let’s take a look at some possible transactions and the upcoming free agents.

Big Name NBA Free Agents –

Kevin Durant – SF – 28.2 PPG 8.2 RPG 5 APG In The 15/16 NBA Season
This is a given, the 27-year-old superstar will experience his first free agency, just like LeBron did a few years back. OKC is clearly the team where he has the best option to win, but whether he wants to move on is the question that lingers. The biggest threats to pulling him from OKC are the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, and Atlanta Hawks.

DeMar Derozan – SG – 23.5 PPG 4 APG 4.5 RPG In The 15/16 NBA Season
Like KD, this is Derozan’s first free agency, Derozan has officially opted out of his contract in Toronto. Presumably, he will return to Toronto for more money, but anything is possible in free agency. I expect him to stay put, but if he doesn’t, some  possible suitors for him are the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and possibly the Thunder if they lose KD.

Mike Conley – PG – 15.1 PPG 6.1 APG 2.9 RPG In The 15/16 NBA Season

This is an interesting one because most people don’t see Conley as a star even though he is one of the best PG’s in the NBA. Conley plays superb defense and is a solid ball handler, and playmaker. He won’t help a franchise rebuild so his best option is to move on from Memphis and head to a contender like San Antonio or up and coming team like Boston or Indiana. New York (Knicks and Nets) has also been an option thrown around for Mike.

Players That Could Be On The Move –

Jimmy Butler – SG – 20.9 PPG 4.8 APG 5.3 RPG In The 15/16 NBA Season

With the Bulls camp reporting they might start the rebuilding process this year, their highest paid and best player in Butler would most definitely be on the move. I doubt they take anything less than a project player and a first round draft pick, but possible suitors with those assets are Boston and Minnesota, which both have been rumored to be in contention for the all-star guard.

DeMarcus Cousins – C – 26.9 PPG 11.5 RPG 1.4 BPG In The 15/16 NBA Season

This will be the third summer he has been linked to being on the move and like they say, third time is the charm. Cousins and Karl clearly don’t get along, and Cousins wants out himself reportedly… So Sacramento why not move on? Possible suitors for the all-star center are the Lakers, Celtics, and Suns.

Derrick Rose – PG – 16.4 PPG 4.7 APG 3.4 RPG In The 15/16 NBA Season

A new name to possibly be on its way out, but if the Bulls are truly gonna rebuild Rose is gonna be gone too. The former MVP and all-star has battled constant injuries the last couple of years and is nowhere near his MVP form, although he is a good starting guard. Possible suitors or the Lakers, Knicks, and Nets.

Surging Draft Prospects –

Marquese Chriss – F – Washington
Surging as high as a top 5 pick on some people’s boards now and with people saying he would go #2 overall.  Chris averaged 14 points and 5 boards a game at Washington and is seen as a stretch 4. He is without a doubt a top 10 pick and looking more and more like a top 5 pick.

Dragan Bender – F/C – Maccabi Tel Aviv
Now seen as a definite top 5 pick, Bender is looking more and more like this years Kristaps Porzingis. The Croatian from Maccabi Tel Aviv, Bender, has rather poor stats in euro league, and is seen much as a project player like Kristaps, who will need some time to develop. I expect a team with a bright future ahead of them and don’t “need” a superstar like Boston or Minnesota to take a gamble on him.
Deyonta Davis – F/C- Michigan State
A player like Davis who was seen as a late lottery pick, is putting himself in a position where he now can go top 10. Davis had a good combine and is coming off a solid season at MSU in which he averaged 8 PPG and 6 RPG. He is definitely more an of a project than someone like Ivan Rabb or Brice Johnson but if you are a rebuilding team that’s what you look for.
